Barnegat Township is graced with having a first-class community hospital in the adjoining town of Manahawkin that provides comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and emergency services. Southern Ocean Medical Center is a private, not-for-profit facility composed of a wide variety of physicians, specialists and dentists that represent 40 specialties.
The hospital’s Radiology Department, Women’s Imaging Center and Cancer Center all are equipped with the latest and most sophisticated diagnostic equipment. Southern Ocean Medical Center’s excellent cardiovascular program is also state-of-the-art. It boasts an impressive arsenal of diagnostic tools including cardiac catheterization. A team of specially trained, skilled physicians called Interventional Radiologist perform minimally invasive procedures that carry less risk and pain and promise a shorter recovery time.
Southern Ocean Medical Center has recently added the services of a certified nurse midwife to its maternity program. Its board-certified physician specialists in obstetrics & gynecology, neonatology, reproductive endocrinology, pediatrics and pediatric cardiology bring the best possible care to expectant and new mothers and their babies.
Great Dining, Shopping and Recreation –
Barnegat Township and Southern Ocean County are home to a wide range of leisure-time activities.
The Township’s Historic District is made up of an eclectic mix of gift shops, boutiques, restaurants, antique stores, museums, parks and ice cream parlors. In addition, 614 acres of waterfront area on Barnegat Bay is devoted to a boardwalk and public dock, boat launching, crabbing and fishing and a bathing beach. Olive Garden will open in the spring of 2011. Other retailers such as Home Depot, Lowes, Kmart and Wal-Mart, are also located on Route 72.
